Our Sustainability Project: Work Begins

After a busy Christmas period, and January spent getting all our ducks in a row (sorry we had to throw that one in there), work has started on our sustainability project. With the team are busy planning for our action packed site visit next week, it is all getting very real now and we are really excited for the project ahead.

We got planning permission for the toilet block to be sited in the woods, but for now the shower cabin is temporarily going to be sited on the main field. We will be looking at where the shower block will be permanently sited in the next phase of the work.

We have the fantastic, local team from DH Digger Hire and Groundworks in Snettisham doing the groundworks for us. They have re-used the old trench dug for the septic tank, thus removing any danger to the archaeology below, and laid a foundation for pillars into the back filled trench. Re-using this old trench will allow the container to be practically at ground level, but raised at the back to provide access to the compost bins from behind.

In addition to this work, people will likely notice a change in the tree line in and around site when they arrive this year. Each winter the trees in the woods drop branches, and with high winds (and a close miss) during the summer we were concerned about safety. Together with the Sedgeford Hall Estate we agreed that a tree survey was required. This has concluded that work is needed on several of the trees to make them safe for those using the track and around our facilities. SHARP has agreed to contribute towards this work which has just taken place. We are particularly sad to report that the dead tree near the environmental hut and crafting area, that almost killed Terry one year, unsurprisingly needed to be removed. It was a huge landmark in the field, and I know many will likely miss it, but we and the Estate agreed that it is safety first.

We will keep you updated as the work for this exciting project progresses. There is a lot more work to be done so if anyone feels able to and wants to help us during any of our future site visits (out of season), we would be more than grateful to accept. Please contact the team to discuss.
