Sustainability Project Update

In early March a small number of SHARP team were on site working on the sustainability project.

The week was busy with deliveries, ordering materials, and planning the next phase of the work. The new cabins from Portable Space arrived safely on Tuesday and fit snuggly onto the pillars in place. The team were then able to start laying out the toilet block walls and see how the composting bins would work. There is more work to be done on the site to improve access to the space, and we need to fill the gap and purchase a ramp for access.

Each evening, we worked on the remaining list of components to purchase and discussed the various plans and variations.

The rest of the deliveries also went well. A huge thanks to all the delivery drivers who managed to deliver everything in one piece, despite the awkward location. Where possible we have ordered locally such as the timber from Kings Lynn Timber Services, but some components travelled further from London and even Scotland.

In addition to all the work going on with the sustainability project, several team members spent some time tidying the site. They removed the nettles from outside the information hut and where the marquee is located. The temporary fix to the ramp up to the information hut is starting to degrade, and therefore a more suitable fix was discussed, along with ways of improving that first impression as people arrive.

The rest of the week consisted of planning for the next visit, which will take place from Friday 11th April to either the 17th or 18th April, and we are open to volunteers for help with some of the bigger jobs. The types of tasks required for this work visit will include building the frame, laying down the flooring, building partition walls, positioning sleepers and backfilling the gap, laying out and burying water lines, re-adjusting covers on trench, cutting brambles around trench fence and general weeding on site. We would particularly like to encourage anyone with woodworking skills and/or those handy with a mattock if you have the time as we have a lot of water pipe to bury.

We are happy to have volunteers beyond the team to help with these activities. The plan is for some team to camp during this time. The facilities will be very basic but we do intend to hire a portaloo. If you would like to help, please contact bookings@sharp.org.uk so we can make a note of any dates and allow us to plan in advance.
